At worst, your opponent starts to play around it and baits the counter-barrage out with a mortar HT before barraging with the real weapons. Regardless of where it lands, free artillery that your opponent simply cannot do a thing about isn't something to turn your nose up to. And even if that weren't the case, there's no reason not to be setting up to counterbarrage whatever, whenever. T1 is a bit iffier, but there's a point where you realize you have enough of those units. But otherwise there's an entire tier that's going to be doing almost nothing, making it ideal for that kind of thing. If you can pump out tanks such that you would actually be inconvenienced by the counter-barrage ability, good for you. Because you don't need it for anything better just then, it's providing a useful function, and you can switch it off instantly, with the only cost being having to wait for the cooldown on the button to finish before you switch it on again. The same reason you use Hull Down, the same reason you use the Valentine's X-Ray binoculars.
The same reason you take your crew out of the Priest after it has barraged (and the Calliope, too, before they removed that ability.) Where have you heard that it needs sight? As far as I can tell, it's able to fire without LoS.Īnd you use the ability because it's a toggle. Why would I even want this ability unless i am near 100 pop cap and is not gonna produce anything from that building?
